  • RACHMANINOV Etudes-Tableaux Op.33
  • RACHMANINOV Corelli Variations
  • SCRIABIN Sonata No. 4
  • PROKOFIEV Sonata No.8 in B-flat Major

Boris Giltburg - PIANO
Russian-born Israeli pianist Boris Giltburg opens our series with a programme full of Russian flair, passion and drama. Rachmaninov's Etudes are each mini tone poems showcasing the full range of pianistic technique, whilst Scriabin's Sonata with its mystical atmosphere evokes the world of his Poeme de l'extase. Written in 1944 Prokofiev's final piano sonata was hailed by Sviatoslav Richter as the composer's greatest contribution to the form, "the richest of all - an abundance of riches".

TUESDAY JUNE 28th
CHAMBER MUSIC MASTERWORKS

  • DVORAK String Quartet No.12 in F Major 'American'
  • SCHUBERT Octet in F Major

BSO Soloists
Two masterworks of the chamber music repertoire frame this programme by the soloists of Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Inspired by Beethoven's famous Septet, the 27-year-old Schubert shows his own unique style and mastery of orchestral colours in a work that matches the scale and beauty of the great Serenades by Mozart. Dvorak's American Quartet combines inspiration of the composer's new home with his Slavonic roots in a work that is a triumph of melodic vision.

Roderick Williams - BARITONE | Susie Allan - PIANO
The 9th Earl of Shaftesbury and his siblings were keen singers and made many recordings in the house. How appropriate therefore that internationally renowned British baritone Roderick Williams performs an evening of English song. With music by Butterworth, Ireland, Finzi, Vaughan Williams and more, this is truly music in the setting for which it was intended.
